The Multicultural Club at Misericordia University will host a Unity Festival on Friday, April 25, from 4:30-6 p.m. in the Wells Fargo Amphitheater. The Multicultural Club at Misericordia University will host a Unity Festival on Friday, April 25, from 4:30-6 p.m. in the Wells Fargo Amphitheater on the upper campus. The program is free and open to the public. It will include the formation of a human chain with members of the campus and regional communities coming together in order to show solidarity and to raise awareness for immigration reform. The Unity Festival will recognize the many countries and cultures that make up the diverse Misericordia community through a showcase of food, dance, music, and traditions. Students will display art and artifacts, show pictures of their travels, provide information, and offer food samples from the countries they represent. There will be prizes for the most creative presentation. Misericordia University student Andrew Casanova, a senior math and secondary education major from Hawley, Pa., is coordinating the event. He also serves as a volunteer with the Multicultural Education Office. Casanova invites members of the community to participate in the human chain, which will begin formation at 5 p.m. “We will be locking arms and form a human chain to represent the Misericordia charism of Hospitality and bring attention to immigration reform,” Casanova explains. “By coming together as a campus community, the length of our chain will show that our small campus cares about the big issues. We will show that we reject racial profiling, prejudice, and hate crimes against people from other nations and that we embrace every new generation of immigrants and welcome growth for the United States. We are one family, one love, and we are diversity. In case of inclement weather, the festival events will be held in the Henry Student Lounge adjacent to the Banks Student Life Center.
